Getting Around

One of Brownsville’s advantages for visiting cruisers is that several useful stops are within easy walking distance of the marina, including restaurants, a convenience market and specialty food shopping. A car isn’t necessary for a short stay if you simply want a meal, a few provisions, or a pleasant evening ashore.

For needs beyond the immediate Brownsville area, Silverdale and Bremerton are the nearest major shopping and service centers and offer supermarkets, pharmacies, marine supplies, hardware stores and other services. Brownsville Marina is not directly served by regular Kitsap Transit routed buses, so visiting boaters should plan on a taxi or rideshare service such as Uber or Lyft for trips outside the neighborhood.

For regional travel, Kitsap Transit provides extensive bus and ferry connections elsewhere in Kitsap County, including passenger-ferry connections between Bremerton and Seattle.

The Port of Brownsville Marina offers visiting cruisers the amenities of a much larger marina in a quiet, friendly Puget Sound setting. Conveniently located between Bremerton and Poulsbo, the marina offers guest moorage with power and water, marine gasoline and diesel, propane, restrooms and showers, coin laundry, pump-out facilities and public Wi-Fi. The waterfront also includes parks, picnic areas, a pavilion, boat ramps and a public fishing pier. With several places to eat and pick up provisions within easy walking distance, Brownsville makes an excellent overnight stop, yacht-club rendezvous, or comfortable base for exploring central Puget Sound.

The Brownsville Deli is more than a convenient place to grab a meal—it’s also one of Brownsville’s local gathering spots. Just steps from the marina, the deli serves hearty sandwiches, soups and other casual fare, along with beer, cider and wine. Regular live music and special events make it an especially enjoyable stop for visiting cruisers looking for an evening ashore without needing transportation. Brownsville Mart, known locally as the Daily Stop, is a welcome convenience for boaters visiting Brownsville. Located just a short walk from the marina, this neighborhood market gives cruisers an easy place to pick up beverages, snacks, ice and other essentials without needing a car. For boats stopping overnight or using Brownsville as a base for exploring the area, having a local convenience store within walking distance makes provisioning easier and Brownsville that much more cruiser-friendly.

Taquiza Street II gives visiting cruisers an easy option for Mexican food just a short walk from the marina. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, Taquiza offers tacos, burritos, quesabirria, loaded fries and other Mexican favorites, with generous portions and convenient takeout. It’s an especially handy choice for grabbing breakfast before getting underway or bringing dinner back to the boat after a day on the water.

Sweeney’s Country Style Meats is a great resource for visiting cruisers looking to provision the galley with something special. This old-fashioned neighborhood meat market offers quality meats and seafood along with house-made sausages, jerky, smoked meats and smoked salmon. Whether you’re stocking up for several days of cruising or picking up something good for dinner aboard, Sweeney’s puts an unusually good specialty butcher within easy walking distance of the marina.
