Small Craft Boating at Brownsville
Brownsville is a great place to explore the waters of Central Puget Sound by sailboat, kayak, paddleboard, rowboat, or other small craft. With a convenient launch ramp, protected harbor, nearby destinations, and easy access to the surrounding shoreline, Brownsville provides an excellent starting point for a day on the water.
Brownsville Yacht Club welcomes small-craft boaters, and you don’t even need to own a boat to participate. BVYC maintains its own fleet of small sailboats and human-powered craft for the use of club members.
 
A Great Place to Launch and Explore
The Port of Brownsville provides a public boat ramp with convenient access to the protected waters of Brownsville and Port Orchard Bay. From the harbor, small-craft boaters can explore the nearby shoreline or venture farther into the waters surrounding Bainbridge Island and the Kitsap Peninsula.
Brownsville is particularly well suited to small sailboats, kayaks, and other trailerable or hand-launched craft. The protected harbor provides a convenient place to begin and end an outing, while the surrounding waters offer plenty of opportunities for exploration.
 
The BVYC Small-Craft Fleet
Brownsville Yacht Club maintains a growing fleet of boats for the use of club members:

• 3 Lido 14 sailboats — two with trailers

• 2 Vanguard 15 sailboats

• 2 Laser sailboats

• 2 kayaks

• 1 aluminum rowboat

The boats are available free of charge to BVYC members after completing the appropriate safety checkout. Whether you’re learning to sail, brushing up on your skills, or simply want to spend an afternoon on the water, the club fleet makes it easy to enjoy boating without owning a boat of your own.
The BVYC small-craft fleet is a club member benefit and is not available for rental or use by the general public.

A Cascadia Marine Trail Stop
Brownsville is also a stop on the Cascadia Marine Trail, part of the Washington Water Trails system. The trail provides a network of shoreline access and camping locations for people traveling Puget Sound by kayak and other human-powered craft.
The Port of Brownsville provides a designated camping area for marine-trail users, making Brownsville a convenient overnight stop for paddlers traveling through Central Puget Sound.
